Antonin Gregory Scalia was an only child. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on March 11, 1936, the time is unknown, so we had to rectify this one. After fully reviewing his career, we decided upon an Ascendant of 26 Libra for the Judge.
His father, Salvator Eugene Scalia, emigrated from Sicily as a teenager and came through Ellis Island. Pere Scalia received a free college education through C.U.N.Y. (City Univeristy of New York) and later became a professor of romance languages at one of them: Brooklyn College.

His mother, Catherine Louisa Panaro, on the other hand, was a first generation Italian-American who worked as an elementary school teacher until Antonin was born. Early in life, he acquired the nickname “Nino,” in remembrance of his grandfather, fo
r whom he was named but also because he was the only son and it translates roughly to “Sonny.”
Scalia grew up in an what was then an Italian-Irish borough of Queens. He attended a public elementary school where he was a straight A student. He then went on to pricey Xavier High School in Manhattan, run by Xavierian Brothers of the Roman Catholic Church, located in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. He continued to receive high academic marks and finished first in his class.
In 1953, Scalia enrolled at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated valedictorian and summa cum laude with a bachelors degree in history in 1957. After graduation, he went on to study at Harvard Law School. During his final year he met Maureen McCarthy, an undergraduate at Radcliffe College. The couple was married on September 10, 1960, and had nine children together. In order of birth they are: Ann Forest, Eugene, John Francis, Catherine Elisabeth Courtney, Mary Clare, Paul David, Matthew, Christopher James, and Margaret (Meg) Jane.
After a stellar judicial career including a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Judge Scalia was sworn into the high court in September 1986, 98-0.
Judge Scalia has a 26 Libra Ascendant giving him a thin appearance in his youth, but tending towards stoutness at he ages. A typical Libra, he has a round face, double chin and good-looking. Librans tend to be cheerful and genial, evidenced by his friendship with Judge Ruth Bader-Ginsburg, that enjoy mental jousting, teasing & play.
His temperament type is a Splash, typically a rather secular humanist, that may explain why he was not a “dependable conservative” as discussed in this article, though totally adhering to the doctrine of Original Intent.
His Ascendant at 26 Libra is one of “benevolence,” and considered a critical degree in the zodiac giving the native “peculiar mental quirks” and idiosyncrasies. Microbiologist, the great Louis Pasteur also has this Ascendant, giving the natives a decided bent in helping others. The Sabian Symbol suggests “An eagle and a dove” perhaps suggesting his need to harmonize his patriotism with his faith.
The Judge’s ascendant is also encouraged by his surplus of Water signs in his chart, including his Part of Fortune at 14 Pisces that has the symbol of a “Family Tree,” that suggests gentility and the push-pull of interweaving discordant socio-politico relationships into a happy whole.
His Line of Vitality, that aspect between the Sun and Moon, is inconjunct, that along with his Splash temperament, a tendency to waste his talents because of a need to throw off excessive mental energy. This is accentuated by the only conjunction in his chart in the Piscean fifth, pleasure seeking and children, house.
His Line of Personality are squared, giving him impetus, to see beyond the individual [or individual court cases] and peer into the underlying currents of their soul as he took seriously his work. That is because Saturn, the stronger of the two planets, is in the fifth house while Jupiter is in the second house of Resources.
His Line of Efficiency is happily sextiled, encouraging that Part of Fortune drift in his life. Finally his Line of Culture is not aspected.
